Learn to fly

Flying yourself is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Here is how to start in Nigeria.

Learning to fly starts with a trial lesson at a flight school approved by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Sit in the left seat, take the controls with an instructor beside you, and you will know whether flying is for you.

Before you fly solo you need a medical certificate from an NCAA-approved aviation medical examiner, and a student pilot licence. Your training then covers the theory (air law, meteorology, navigation, principles of flight, human performance) and the flying: circuits, your first solo, cross-country flights and the skills test with an examiner.

The Private Pilot Licence lets you fly for pleasure and business, and takes you on to instrument and commercial ratings if you choose. Our members have trained in Nigeria and abroad; ask the Pilot Information Centre and we will help you choose a school, plan the cost and avoid the delays.

Young Aviators

Every pilot remembers the first time they sat in a cockpit. We open our hangars and our aircraft to young Nigerians so the next generation of pilots, engineers, air traffic controllers and aviation leaders can see, touch and feel where aviation can take them.

Through school visits, fly-ins and careers days, our members share what they do and help young people find the path from the classroom to the flight deck.
